Tracey McHenry

Tracey McHenry, PhD, is a Professor of English at Eastern Washington University (EWU), affiliated with the Department of English in the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. She joined EWU in 2000 after completing her PhD in English linguistics at Purdue University with a focus on Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and cultural studies.

Her research interests span the English language's historical development, contemporary dialects, and global manifestations (World Englishes). Notable areas include sociolinguistics of nonstandard English varieties like Black English, English for tourism, and the evolution of gender-neutral pronouns. She actively engages in educational outreach, conducting workshops for K-12 educators on grammar instruction.

Current projects emphasize World Englishes and English for specific professional contexts. McHenry's academic contributions bridge theoretical linguistics with applied educational practices, reflecting her dedication to language preservation and societal relevance.
