Dr. Tracey Hanshew is an Assistant Professor of History at Eastern Oregon University, specializing in the American West with a focus on rodeo cowgirls, ranching, and rural women's history. She holds a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University and teaches courses on U.S. History, diversity, and the History of Rodeo. Her research explores gender dynamics and social reform in the rural West, earning awards like the Muriel H. Wright Award and the 2021 Western Heritage Wrangler Award. She currently investigates the cowgirl image in Western genre analysis and is contributing to an edited collection on Taylor Sheridan’s Wests. Dr. Hanshew serves on the Historical Landmarks Commission and the Advisory Board of Americana: The Journal of American Popular Culture, and coordinates the Rural Women’s Studies Association Membership for the western U.S.
