Louis Warren is W. Turrentine Jackson Professor of U.S. Western History at UC Davis. His research focuses on environmental history, Native American history, California history, and the American West. Warren has received major honors including the Bancroft Prize and Guggenheim Fellowship.
His award-winning book 'God's Red Son' (2017) examines the Ghost Dance movement and its role in shaping modern America. Other influential works include 'Buffalo Bill's America' (2005) exploring cultural mythology through Wild West shows, and 'The Hunter's Game' (1997) analyzing conservation conflicts between poachers and officials.
Warren's research investigates property rights, conservation policy, cultural representation, and racial ideologies in American history. His courses cover U.S. Western history, environmental history, California history, and Native American history.
