Prof. Dr. Torsten Niechoj is a Professor of Economics and Political Science at the Faculty of Communication and Environment, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, based at the Kamp-Lintfort Campus. His work bridges political science and economics, emphasizing the institutional and political embeddedness of economic processes.
His research interests include macroeconomic theory, economic policy, institutional economics, euro area governance, fiscal structures, and digital production. He approaches economic phenomena through a political science lens, focusing on power relations, historical context, and collective actors.
Torsten Niechoj is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed journal European Journal of Economics and Economic Policies: Intervention (EJEEP), and an active member of the Forum for Macroeconomics and Macroeconomic Policies (FMM). He also serves as a liaison lecturer for the Hans Böckler Foundation.
He completed his doctorate at Philipps University Marburg in 2002, supported by a scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation, with a thesis on collective actors and economic performance. Prior to joining Rhine-Waal, he conducted research at Georg August University of Göttingen and at applied research institutes WSI and IMK, where he led the department for international business cycles and economic policy. He has taught at universities in Marburg, Göttingen, and Düsseldorf.
At Rhine-Waal, he has contributed to university governance through roles in the Finance Committee, Senate, and currently chairs the Planning and Structure Committee.
