Torsten Geelan is a Lecturer in Economic Sociology and the Future of Work at the University of Bristol's School of Management (Business School). He holds a PhD and MPhil in Sociology from the University of Cambridge and a BA in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester. His research focuses on trade union movements, media counter-power, just transitions to sustainable economies, and alternatives to capitalism, drawing on industrial relations, environmental sociology, and media studies. He led the EU-funded Eco-Unions project (2021-2024) examining labour-environmental coalitions in Denmark and the UK. He is co-founder of the Alternatives to Capitalism Research Network at SASE and co-editor of the Bristol University Press book series on post-capitalist futures.
