Torsten Faber

Prof. Dr. Torsten Faber is a faculty member at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, where he has served as Head of the Wind Energy Technology Institute (WETI) since 2010. He holds a doctorate in steel and timber construction from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and previously led the rotor blades and structural engineering department at Germanischer Lloyd (2003–2010).

His research focuses on wind turbine structural design, including building/support structures, rotor blades, service life prediction, and certification processes. He has contributed to standards like DIN 18088-1 for wind turbine structures and pioneered structural health monitoring (SHM) frameworks for offshore wind turbines.

Prof. Faber is actively engaged in industry governance, serving as an expert assessor for the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) and co-founding Windenergiezirkel Hanse e.V. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in wind energy technology.
