Tony Street

Tony Street is a Research Fellow at Clare Hall and Assistant Director of Research in Islamic Studies within the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge. He holds affiliations with the School of Arts & Humanities and has served in roles such as Professeur Invité at Paris 7 and Mellon Sawyer Visiting Professor at Berkeley. His academic journey began at the Australian National University (ANU), where he earned a BA in Asian Studies (Arabic) and a PhD in Medieval Islamic Theology (1989).

His research focuses on medieval Islamic theology, Arabic logic, and the philosophy of language. Notable projects include grants like 'Investigating Aristotelian Logic, East and West' (AHRC, 2005–2008) and 'Major issues and controversies of Arabic logic' (AHRC, 2011–2014). He currently serves on editorial boards for journals such as History and Philosophy of Logic and Arabic Sciences and Philosophy.

Future work includes a 2019 Fellowship at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies. He supervises graduate students in Islamic studies and has mentored scholars like Ataul Khabir and Gholamreza Dadkhah.
