Tom Zylkin

Tom Zylkin is an Associate Professor in the Economics Department at the Robins School of Business, University of Richmond. His research focuses on quantifying trade agreements and policies, with expertise in gravity models and econometric methods.

• Education: B.A. in Mathematics & English, University of Pennsylvania (2005); Ph.D. in Economics, Drexel University (2015)

His research explores the economic impacts of trade policies, including trade creation/diversion in FTAs, firm heterogeneity in trade-induced job losses, and machine learning applications in trade analysis. He has developed widely used Stata packages like ppmlhdfe and ppml_fe_bias for high-dimensional fixed effects models.

Tom’s publications analyze currency unions, cross-border patents, and trade-security linkages, often combining theoretical insights with empirical rigor. His work bridges trade policy analysis with computational advancements in econometrics.
