Tom Newmaster

Tom Newmaster is an Adjunct Instructor in the Graphic Design department at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D), where he teaches packaging design and mentors students who consistently excel in national design competitions. With over 30 years of industry experience, he brings real-world expertise from his roles as a designer, art director, and co-owner of WFM (1998–2016), as well as the founder of FORCEpkg, a forward-thinking design and branding concept launched in 2017.

His research and professional interests center on packaging design, brand development, and creative collaboration. His work bridges academic instruction with active industry engagement, emphasizing practical, innovative solutions for challenger and global brands alike. He has written extensively for publications such as Brand Packaging, Packaging Digest, and Flexo Magazine, reinforcing his role as a thought leader in the field.

Tom has been honored with over 50 design awards, including recognition as GDUSA Educator to Watch (2019–20), Berks County Shining Star (2012), and placement in the Fast Company Fast 50 (2005). Additional accolades include the Flexo Magazine Author’s Excellence Award and multiple Project 2020 Finalist titles.

As a dedicated educator and industry practitioner, Tom advises and inspires the next generation of designers. His former company and work have been featured in Fast Company Magazine, Inc. Magazine, and international design directories. He continues to contribute to the academic and professional design communities through teaching, writing, and creative practice.

Tom leads FORCEpkg, a mobile and collaborative design initiative, and maintains strong ties with both national and global clients. His work environment fosters innovation, real-world problem solving, and educational outreach, making him a vital link between industry and academia.
