About
Tom Lukas Kaufmann is a doctoral researcher at the Technical University of Berlin, affiliated with BIFOLD (Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data) and the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine. He is also part of the CompCancer graduate school. His research focuses on computational methods to study tumor heterogeneity, cancer evolution, and copy-number alterations in cancer cells. He holds an M.Sc. (2019) and B.Sc. (2017) in Physics from Heidelberg University, with a one-year exchange at University College London. His academic journey includes research stays at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies and the German Cancer Research Center, which sparked his interest in bioinformatics and computational cancer research.
Research Interests: Tom’s work bridges physics, computer science, and oncology, emphasizing tumor heterogeneity, cancer evolution through computational simulations, and latent space representations of biological data. His methods aim to dissect genetic and epigenetic dynamics in tumors to improve therapeutic strategies.
Labs/Teams: Active member of BIFOLD (TU Berlin) and CompCancer graduate school (Max Delbrück Center).
