Professor Tom Harrison is the Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor for Education Innovation and Director of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues at the University of Birmingham. He holds dual roles as a Professor of Education and leads strategic educational innovation initiatives. His work focuses on character education, digital wisdom, and graduate attributes. He is an HEA Principal Fellow and National Teaching Fellow, and serves as Secretary/Trustee for the Society for Educational Studies (SES).
His research spans innovation in education systems, virtue ethics application in digital environments, and youth social action. He advises policy makers nationally and internationally, collaborating with schools, NGOs, and governmental bodies. His influential book Thrive won the IFFD Global Award for its insights on cultivating character in digital spaces.
Professor Harrison leads the MA in Character Education, a pioneering global program, and chairs the Jubilee Centre’s applied research projects. He is also the Academic Lead for Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) in the College of Social Science, exploring tech’s impact on learning experiences. His editorial roles include serving as Books Editor for the Journal of Educational Studies.
