About
Dr. Tom Bunyard is a lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Liverpool since 2023. Previously, he taught philosophy, critical theory, and cultural studies at the University of Brighton for a decade. His research focuses on distributive justice, desert, and the philosophical works of Guy Debord and Gillian Rose, with a particular interest in modernity and critical theory.
His current research is centered around the ERC and UKRI-funded Advanced Research Grant ‘Kantian Justice: A Responsibility-Enhancing Desert-Sensitive Theory’, where he investigates the incompatibility of desert conceptions, the plurality of values governing desert claims, and their practicability in economic disparity contexts.
- Research Outputs: Debord’s theoretical work, critical theory’s relevance, historical materialism, and Hegelian ethics.
- Teaching: Modules on Business Ethics (PHIL271), Modernity and Critical Thought, Political Philosophy, and Science, Society and Public Policy.
