Tobias Heitz

Tobias Heitz serves as Lecturer in Digital Cinematography at Saar University of Fine Arts and Lecturer in Explainer Videos at Saarland University of Applied Sciences since 2017, while leading the Media Lab at Saar University of Fine Arts since 2014. His dual institutional roles focus on practical media production training across both universities.

He earned his academic foundation through a Bachelor of Arts in Media Art & Design (2014) followed by a Master of Arts in Design Theory (2017), both completed at Saar University of Fine Arts. This institutional continuity informs his integrated approach to teaching and lab management.

His research and teaching concentrate on applied digital cinematography, with specialized expertise in visual storytelling techniques, professional lighting systems, and business-oriented content creation. Courses emphasize camera operation, audio recording, and post-production workflows through intensive hands-on workshops designed for immediate industry applicability.

He secured the 2017 Surface Sensible grant through Goethe Institut Nancy, supporting experimental media projects. As Media Lab director, he maintains strict equipment access protocols where successful course completion unlocks Category 1 gear borrowing privileges, with all courses capped at 12 students for personalized technical mentorship.

The Media Lab under his leadership functions as a central production hub serving 8+ academic departments, featuring dedicated roof studios and specialized facilities for video production. His workshop management integrates equipment logistics with curriculum development, particularly for cross-departmental programs like Media Informatics and Curating.
