Tiny Jaarsma

Tiny Jaarsma is a Professor at Linköping University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Nursing and Reproductive Health. Her research focuses on improving self-care and quality of care for patients with chronic heart conditions, particularly heart failure. She has contributed to evidence-based practices internationally and pioneered interventions leveraging technology, such as the Wii-project for physical activity support and mobile health applications.

Education: PhD from Maastricht University (1999). Awards include the American Heart Association’s Distinguished Scientist Award (2016) and Fellowships from the European Academy of Nurse Scientists (2014) and the American Academy of Nursing (2011). She serves as Chief Editor of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing and holds leadership roles in cardiac nursing organizations.

Research priorities include cross-cultural self-care studies, validation of care scales (e.g., EHFScB), and technology-driven interventions. Current projects involve mobile exergames for heart failure patients and telemonitoring innovations. Collaborations span institutions in the Netherlands, Italy, and Israel, with a focus on interdisciplinary teams.

Grants and funding: Received significant funding for projects on heart failure care and digital health, including a 20 million SEK grant from the Kamprad Foundation. Active in clinical trials evaluating fluid management and patient-centered care models.
