About
Andreas Protopapas is a Lecturer in Nursing at the Department of Health Sciences, School of Sciences, European University Cyprus. Previously, he worked as a Staff Nurse at Nicosia General Hospital and held a part-time teaching role at Cyprus University of Technology. He holds a PhD in Cardiac Nursing from Cyprus University of Technology (2017), an MSc in Intensive Therapy Units-Cardiac Nursing (2010), and a BSc in Nursing (2002).
His research focuses on heart failure management, nursing interventions, and patient self-care. Notable contributions include leading the MEETinCY randomized controlled trial on nurse-led interventions for heart failure patients. He has also explored cultural factors influencing cardiovascular health and drug interactions affecting cardiac patients.
Dr. Protopapas has been recognized with the 2019 European Society of Cardiology Investigator Award for his work on specialist nurse interventions in heart failure care. He actively contributes to professional organizations, serving as Vice-President of the Cardiac Nursing Working Group (Cyprus Society of Cardiology) and as a member of the European Society of Cardiology’s Nursing and Allied Professions committee.
His publications (over 20 articles) emphasize improving patient outcomes through evidence-based practices, including telemonitoring and multidisciplinary care. Current research interests include nursing education, sepsis awareness among students, and nurse resilience during pandemics.
