Timothy MacNeill

Dr. Timothy MacNeill is a Senior Teaching Professor of Political Science at Ontario Tech University’s Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. He holds a PhD in Communication and Culture from York University and an MDE from Dalhousie University. His research focuses on globalization’s impacts on marginalized communities, sustainable development through Indigenous-led movements, and the interplay between institutions and human behavior.

Key research streams include: 1) Corporate practices affecting Indigenous ecosystems; 2) Reimagining socio-political systems via social movements; and 3) Institutional influences on human behavior. He hosts the political podcast/vlog Calling Bullsh*t and has produced over 100 political music recordings addressing topics like climate change and racial inequity.

His work spans Economy and Society, Community Development, and Cultural Dynamics. Notable grants include a $302k SSHRC Insight Grant (2019-2024) examining Canadian investment impacts on Indigenous peoples, and a $2.5M SSHRC Partnership Grant on global-local food systems.

Teaching includes courses like Inequality and Development, Environment and Globalization, and Social Policy. He actively collaborates with Indigenous communities through projects like the North Shore Tribal Council’s social service frameworks.
