Timothy Jackson is a Professor of Retinal Research in the Department of Ophthalmology. He is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist specializing in retinal diseases, macular degeneration, and advanced retinal surgical techniques. His work bridges clinical ophthalmology and translational research, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for patients with complex retinal conditions.

Professor Jackson’s research spans several interrelated domains:
- Macular Degeneration: Investigating wet and dry forms of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including combination therapies and novel drug delivery systems.
- Retinal Surgery: Advancing vitrectomy techniques for macular hole, submacular hemorrhage, and epiretinal membranes.
- Diabetic Eye Disease: Exploring diabetic retinopathy and its systemic neurologic implications using large-scale biobank data.
- Glaucoma: Leading multicentre trials such as the NAMinG trial evaluating nicotinamide in glaucoma.
- Retinal Imaging & AI: Developing machine learning tools for automated detection of retinal pathologies like venous pulsations and hydroxychloroquine toxicity.
