About
Timothy Coombes is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Music at St Hugh’s College and Organizing Tutor in Music at Exeter College, both part of the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Music. His research focuses on music’s role in the cultural history of childhood in 19th- and 20th-century France, as well as philosophical questions around dance, movement, and embodiment, with interdisciplinary engagement in art history and the 'nonhuman turn.' He teaches undergraduate courses on analysis, methodologies, and topics in modern music.
His recent publications include work on Debussy’s Pelléas and Symbolist childhood, the reception of Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel in Paris, and analyses of Fauré’s Dolly Suite. These studies highlight intersections between music, cultural identity, and childhood narratives.
No scientific awards are explicitly mentioned. His teaching and research emphasize interdisciplinary dialogue, particularly between musicology and visual arts.
