Dr. Timothy A. Yap is a Medical Oncologist and Physician-Scientist at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, holding the Ransom Horne, Jr. Endowed Professorship for Cancer Research. He serves as Vice President and Head of Clinical Development in the Therapeutics Discovery Division and is a Professor in the Department of Investigational Cancer Therapeutics (Phase I Program) and the Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology. His research focuses on developing molecularly targeted agents and immunotherapies, particularly targeting the DNA damage response (DDR) and novel biomarker-driven approaches. He leads clinical trials for agents like ATR, PARP1, and YAP/TEAD inhibitors, and has expertise in immunotherapy combinations, including PD-1/PD-L1 and other checkpoint inhibitors.
Education: BSc (First Class Honors) in Immunology and Infectious Diseases from Imperial College London, MBBS from Imperial College London, PhD in Molecular Pharmacology from The Institute of Cancer Research. He completed clinical training at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Oxford.
Research Interests: First-in-human trials, combinatorial drug development, translational biomarker analysis, and precision medicine. His work spans DDR inhibitors, epigenetic targets (EZH2/BET), metabolic pathways (Glutaminase/OXPHOS), and immune-oncology therapies.
Grants & Awards: Active grants include NIH/NCI R01, DOD grants, V Foundation Scholar grant, and Golfers against Cancer grant. He has received prestigious awards for clinical research and leadership.
