Timmesha Butler

Timmesha Butler serves as an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Ramapo College of New Jersey's School of Social Science and Human Services (SSHS), having joined the institution in 2019. She is affiliated with the Social Work Convening Group within SSHS and maintains an active presence in both undergraduate and graduate social work education.

Dr. Butler's research interests focus on critical areas including African American Students with Learning and Behavior Disabilities, Critical Disability Theory, School Social Work Practices and Interventions, School Discipline Policies, and Social Policies Related to Juvenile Justice. Her work addresses systemic issues in education and justice systems, particularly examining how race, disability, and policy intersect in school environments.

Her scholarly contributions include presentations on the school-to-prison pipeline at national conferences, demonstrating her commitment to addressing systemic inequities through research and practice. These publications reveal a consistent focus on decarceration strategies and educational justice over nearly two decades.

As a NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Dr. Butler brings practical expertise to her academic role, bridging theory and practice in social work education.

Her teaching portfolio includes significant courses across both degree programs: Human Behavior in the Social Environment I and Cultural Diversity: Racism, Oppression, & Privilege for B.S.W. students; and Research I and Research II for M.S.W. candidates.
