Tim Mazzarol

Tim Mazzarol is an Emeritus Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the UWA Business School, specializing in entrepreneurship, innovation, and small business management. He holds affiliations with the UWA Oceans Institute and is an Affiliate Professor at the Burgundy School of Business. His roles include coordinating the UWA Co-operative Enterprise Research Unit (CERU) and leading the UWA Institute of Agriculture’s agribusiness ecosystems research theme.

• Education: Prior academic roles at Curtin University (1994–2000), with experience as a teacher, diplomat, and industry manager before academia.
• Research Focus: Strategic management of SME innovation, cooperative enterprise sustainability, and the definition of small businesses in policy contexts.

His research interests emphasize co-operative enterprises as competitive models, innovation in small firms, and sustainable practices. He has led over 150 applied research projects for government and industry, addressing market strategies, regional development, and policy design.

Teaching includes MBA and doctoral programs in entrepreneurship, strategic management, and innovation. Current projects explore SME innovation strategies and cooperative enterprise sustainability.

Grants and funding include ARC Linkage Projects on sustainable cooperatives and energy-saving behavior. His work spans 305 publications and contributions to UN SDGs through sustainable enterprise research.

Labs/Teams: Directorships at CERU, CEMI, and the Commercialisation Studies Centre (CSC) Ltd., with active involvement in industry training and executive education.
