Tim Hibsman

Tim Hibsman is a Professor of English in the Language, Literature, and Writing Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, part of the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. He maintains his office in Leonard Hall and teaches courses in technical writing, composition, legal writing, and specialized topics in nautical film and literature.

Dr. Hibsman earned his educational credentials from prestigious institutions:

• EdD in Educational Technology from Pepperdine University (2000)
• MA in Professional Writing from University of Southern California (1995)
• BA in English and Creative Writing from California State University, Long Beach

With a unique background that includes 15 years working in the aerospace industry before transitioning to academia, Dr. Hibsman brings practical experience to his teaching. His research interests focus on professional and technical writing, nautical and aviation film and literature, educational technology, and online learning methodologies. His work bridges traditional academic disciplines with modern technological applications in education.

Dr. Hibsman is an active participant in the Computer Using Educators (CUE) conference, where he has presented over ten papers on innovative approaches to online education. His presentations cover topics ranging from teaching professional writing online to the educational value of Minecraft, demonstrating his commitment to exploring cutting-edge educational technologies and methodologies.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Dr. Hibsman enjoys spending time with his daughter and playing ice hockey.
