About
Dr. Tim Hermans is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. His primary role involves studying historical and future sea-level changes, extreme water levels, and their impacts on coastal systems. He specializes in analyzing climate model simulations and observational data from satellites and tide gauges to understand physical processes and coastal vulnerability.
Research Interests: His work focuses on Sea Level Change, Climate Modelling, and Climate Dynamics, with a strong emphasis on applications such as North Sea variability and global coastal protection declines. He co-developed sea-level projections for the IPCC's 6th Assessment Report (Chapter 9) and leads interdisciplinary initiatives like the WELCOME program on compound extremes and the water-energy-land nexus.
Professional Activities: He serves as a Chapter Scientist for IPCC WG1 and contributed to the Knowledge Hub on Sea-Level Rise Assessment Report. His technical skills include machine learning, data analysis, and Earth system modeling.
