About
Dr Tim Hawkins is Head of the Bioimaging facility in Durham University's Department of Biosciences and Deputy Director of the Durham Centre for Bioimaging Technology. He leads research on cytoskeleton dynamics in plant and animal cells, imaging methodologies, and collaborations with industrial partners. His work spans plant cell division, mechanical stress responses, and innovative microscopy platforms. Current projects include NET protein studies and algae cell biology. He also coordinates outreach activities for Biosciences.
Research interests focus on imaging techniques applied to actin cytoskeleton biology, mechanical cell manipulation, and industrial partnerships. Key collaborations involve Zaber Technologies and Flintec for microscopy platforms.
Lab members include Joanne Robson, Dr Liv Kent, and Lydia Kitchen. Supervised students (8 listed) are pursuing PhD/MSc research in cell biology and bioimaging. His recent publications emphasize collagen secretion dynamics, plant immunity, and imaging tool development. No scientific awards are listed, but his work highlights interdisciplinary innovation in both plant and biomedical fields.
