Professor Tim Doyle holds dual affiliations: as Emeritus Chair of Politics and International Relations at Keele University (UK) and Professor of Politics and International Studies at the University of Adelaide (Australia). His primary appointment is with the University of Adelaide’s School of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Arts. He is also a Distinguished Research Fellow at Curtin University’s Australia-Asia-Pacific Institute (AAPI) in Western Australia. Doyle specializes in environmental politics, Indo-Pacific governance, and regional development in the Global South.
Education: B.A. (Hons) from Melbourne University, M.A. (High Distinction) from Adelaide University, and Ph.D. from Griffith University. He has taught globally and led institutions like the Research Centre for SPIRE at Keele and the Indo-Pacific Governance Research Centre (IPGRC) at Adelaide. His research focuses on regional security, environmental governance, and the Indian Ocean’s geopolitical dynamics.
He leads the Australian Research Council’s ‘Building the Indian Ocean Region’ project (2012–2015) and serves as Chief Editor of the Journal of the Indian Ocean Region. His editorial roles include co-editing the Transforming Environmental Politics and Policy Series. He has supervised numerous PhD students on topics ranging from water politics in China to non-traditional security in the Asia-Pacific.
Doyle’s activism spans environmental and human rights causes since the 1980s. He chairs the Indian Ocean Rim Association Academic Group (IORAG) and directs the Indian Ocean Research Group’s Human and Environmental Security program. His work bridges academia, policy, and activism to address Third World challenges in the Indian Ocean Rim.
