Priya Chacko is an Associate Professor of International Politics at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. She previously held positions at Victoria University of Wellington and the University of the Witwatersrand, and has been a non-resident fellow at the Perth-US Asia Centre and a visiting scholar at the Australia-India Institute.
Her research focuses on nationalism’s role in domestic and foreign policy, the impact of global capitalist processes on domestic politics, and the structural influence of ideology in capitalism. Specializing in Indian politics and the Indo-Pacific region, her work spans journals like International Affairs and Political Geography. Current projects address authoritarian populism in India, transnational repression strategies, and racial capitalism’s role in Australia’s international relations.
Dr. Chacko co-edits South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies and has explored themes such as India’s foreign policy dynamics, economic nationalism, and geopolitical positioning in the Indo-Pacific. Her publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with postcolonial theory, critical political economy, and security studies.
