Tim Baird

Tim Baird is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the College of Natural Resources and Environment. His research focuses on human-environment interactions, particularly in East Africa, exploring topics like conservation, livelihood diversification, and ICT impacts. He also investigates smart environments and education spaces, integrating technologies like lidar for indoor geography studies.

Baird holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from the University of North Carolina and Bowdoin College, respectively. He teaches courses on sustainability, Africa, and environmental conservation, emphasizing active learning and student autonomy through methods like the 'Pink Time' assignment.
