About
Professor Tilo Kircher is a leading researcher at Philipps University of Marburg, affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at University Hospital Marburg (UKGM). His work focuses on understanding brain function and mental disorders through multisensory research approaches, combining structural MRI, functional neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG), experimental psychology, and clinical studies. He leads Project A3 "Predictive perception processes: multisensory consequences of one’s own actions" with Prof. Dr. Straube, investigating sensorimotor prediction mechanisms in schizophrenia spectrum disorders and healthy individuals.
Research interests include:
- Neural mechanisms of action-outcome monitoring
- Self-generated vs externally-generated sensory processing
- Brain structure/function in psychiatric conditions
- Temporal recalibration and efference copy disturbances
- Speech-gesture integration and social cognition
- Transcranial stimulation applications in schizophrenia
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus across neuroscience, psychiatry, and cognitive psychology, with special emphasis on sensorimotor integration, predictive coding, and schizophrenia-related neural impairments. The research team actively employs combined EEG-fMRI methodologies, behavioral assessments, and patient follow-up studies.
Current advisees include PhD student Harun Ar Rashid. The group collaborates with institutions such as University Hospital Marburg, exploring clinical applications of basic neuroscience findings through translational studies.
