About
Thrishantha Nanayakkara is Professor of Robotics at Imperial College London's Dyson School of Design Engineering, where he directs the Morph Lab. His research pioneers controllable stiffness robotics, investigating how physical mechanisms in robots and environments enable computational solutions for perception and action in dynamic settings.
His work spans bioinspired systems, medical robotics, and morphological computation, with applications in terrain navigation, haptic interfaces, and embodied intelligence. Recent innovations include origami-inspired endoscopic devices and adaptive robotic feet.
Professor Nanayakkara holds Chartered Engineer status (IET, 2018) and is an IEEE Senior Member (2015).
