Thomas Winkelbauer is a Full Professor of Austrian History (History of the Habsburg Monarchy) at the Department of History, University of Vienna. He has served as Director of the Institute of Austrian Historical Research since 2010 and was Head of the History Department (Institutsvorstand) in 2007-2008. His academic career spans roles as Associate Professor at the University of Vienna (1998-2007) and Visiting Professor at the University of Salzburg (Winter Term 1998/99).
