Thomas W Beggs

Dr. Thomas W Beggs is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology at San José State University and a Full-Time Instructor in Adapted Physical Education at De Anza Community College. He specializes in Older Adult fitness, Corrective exercise training, and outdoor education for disabled populations. His work focuses on inclusive physical education, particularly in aquatic programs and outdoor experiences for disabled adults.

Dr. Beggs pioneered Adapted Physical Education (APE) programs, including the first full-time APE program at College of San Mateo. He has held leadership roles such as Interim Department Head of APE, Division Dean for Physical Education and Athletics, and SCOPE President. His advocacy includes developing CCC Physical Education Standards and demographic research at De Anza College.

He has led over 35 outdoor programs for disabled adults, emphasizing experiential learning. Awards include the De Anza President’s Award (2001) and Distinguished Educator (2006). His hobbies include backpacking, bicycling, and surfing, reflecting his passion for active lifestyles.
