Thomas Schmidt is Professor of Music at the University of Manchester's School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, specializing in 15th/16th and 18th/19th century music. His research examines word-music relationships, polyphonic source transmission, and Felix Mendelssohn's compositions.
He has authored monographs on Mendelssohn, the fifteenth-century motet, and the sonata form. His editorial work includes critical editions of Mendelssohn's symphonies for the Complete Edition.
