Thomas Rakow

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Rakow is a Professor in the Media Department at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. He specializes in databases, e-business, and media informatics. He co-coordinates the B.Sc. Media Informatics program and serves as the alumni representative for the Faculty of Media. His roles include advising research programs and collaborating with companies on website development and project management.

Education: Diploma in Computer Science from TU Braunschweig, Doctorate in Engineering from TU Darmstadt (thesis: 'Semantic Concurrency Control in Object-Oriented Database Systems').

Research focuses on database systems, data analysis, and learning management. He led projects like the Ministry-funded OER development for database systems and the LINK journal portal. A member of the German Informatics Society (GI), he contributed to curriculum standards for media informatics and authored the 'Databases on the Web' chapter in Taschenbuch Datenbanken.
