Thomas Cunningham is Regents Professor of Physiology & Anatomy and Associate Vice President for Research Administration at UNT Health Science Center's College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences. His laboratory investigates central nervous system regulation of cardiovascular function and fluid balance.
Research examines neuroendocrine mechanisms in hypertension, water/electrolyte homeostasis, and pathological water retention in heart/liver disease. The lab employs neuroanatomical, pharmacological, and molecular approaches to study angiotensin and vasopressin systems.
Professor Cunningham leads NIH-funded projects on salt sensitivity of blood pressure and intermittent hypoxia. He has mentored numerous trainees and collaborates widely on neural control mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases.
