Dr. Mark Cunningham Jr. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology & Anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. His research examines mechanisms of cerebrovascular dysfunction and cardiovascular disease in women with hypertensive pregnancy complications (particularly preeclampsia) and their offspring. He investigates inflammatory pathways, mitochondrial dysfunction, and oxidative stress using rat models.
His current projects focus on interleukin-17 (IL-17) and angiotensin II type 1 receptor agonistic autoantibodies (AT1-AA) as key factors in preeclampsia. He employs pharmacological interventions to improve maternal and fetal outcomes during pregnancy and postpartum.
