Thomas Alkier

Thomas Alkier is a Professor at Folkwang University of the Arts, where he has been a continuous member of the faculty since the winter semester of 1987/88. He serves as a lecturer for Jazz Percussion and leads ensemble training with a focus on Rhythm Group Coaching.

Alkier has an extensive career as a jazz percussionist, collaborating with renowned artists and ensembles such as the NDR Bigband, Vienna Art Orchestra, and Carla Bley and Steve Swallow projects. His musical engagements span global tours across the USA, Japan, Europe, and even cultural initiatives through the Goethe-Institut in countries like China, Ghana, and Morocco.

He has also contributed to academic governance as a jury member for the Folkwang Preis in classical music and has taught at institutions including the HdK Berlin. His expertise lies in jazz performance, rhythm group dynamics, and international artistic collaboration.
