Thomas A. Hamilton, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. He holds external appointments as Vice Chair of the Lerner Research Institute and Chair of the Department of Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic. His research focuses on mechanisms regulating mRNA stability during inflammation, cellular stress responses, and signal transduction pathways in myeloid cells. Current projects include identifying mRNA sequences controlling instability, defining mRNA decay mechanisms, and characterizing cross-talk between inflammatory and cellular stress pathways.
He leads the Thomas Hamilton Laboratory studying inflammation and immunity, with a focus on post-transcriptional control of gene expression. His work has been supported by a $12M National Cancer Institute grant investigating inflammatory cytokines in cancer progression. Professional roles include Interim Chair of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Lerner Research Institute.
