Teddy Hickman-Maynard

Teddy Hickman-Maynard serves as Associate Dean for Ministry Studies and Lecturer on Ministry at Harvard Divinity School (HDS), overseeing the Master of Divinity program since August 2021. With over 20 years of ministry experience spanning senior pastor, youth pastor, and worship leadership roles, he also serves as associate minister at Bethel AME Church in Lynn, Massachusetts.

His educational background includes a BA from Harvard University, MDiv from Boston University, and PhD from Boston University. Research focuses on social justice, Black Church traditions, and trauma-responsive ministry practices, evidenced by co-investigation of projects like "Creative Callings" (exploring innovative ministries for meaningful living) and "Trauma-Responsive Congregations" (applying trauma theology to urban congregational ministry).

Hickman-Maynard's work demonstrates sustained engagement with practical theology and community-centered ministry development, particularly through grant-funded research addressing urban congregational challenges. His teaching at HDS and previous role as Assistant Professor of Black Church Studies at Boston University School of Theology reflect deep commitment to ministry education grounded in social justice frameworks.
