Taryn Robertson is an Assistant Professor of Education at Randolph College, joining the faculty in 2023. She brings extensive experience from teaching positions across the United States, including as a high school English language arts and reading teacher in Texas, an adjunct professor at the University of Denver while earning her PhD, and instructor in the doctoral program at the University of San Diego.
Dr. Robertson's educational background includes a master's degree in education and a PhD in curriculum and instruction. As a first-generation college student herself, she is particularly passionate about creating inclusive learning environments where all students feel safe, seen, heard, and valued.
Her research focuses on secondary education, with particular emphasis on English language learners, reading and writing pedagogy, and diversity in classrooms. Dr. Robertson believes that 'learning should be fun' and that 'learning looks and feels different for every single student.' She aims to create warm classroom environments where students can 'truly be themselves while celebrating what makes us each different and special.'
Dr. Robertson is actively involved in professional organizations, serving as:
- Program chair for the Elliot Eisner Special Interest Group (American Educational Research Association)
- Member of the Executive Council for the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum (AATC)
- Member of the O.L. Davis, Jr. Outstanding Book Award review committee
Outside academia, Dr. Robertson enjoys outdoor activities with her partner Derek and their 12-year-old dog Harrison, having visited 26 national parks together. She's an avid marathon runner, reader of thrillers and mysteries, and enjoys vegetarian cooking and international travel.
