Tara La Rose

Tara La Rose is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work, McMaster University. Her research focuses on professional identity, digital media in social work practice, and critical reflexive methodologies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and an MSW from Dalhousie University. Her work critiques neoliberalism's impact on social work capacity and explores digital storytelling as a tool for advocacy.

Research interests include LGBTQ+ healthcare equity, digital literacy training for marginalized groups, and sousveillance in social welfare. She has published extensively on topics like 2SLGBTQI+ clinical encounters, older adults' digital access, and union advocacy in child welfare. Recent articles analyze nonverbal communication in healthcare and creative online programming for seniors.

Teaching includes leadership education (SOCWORK 741/742), social policy frameworks (SOCWORK 701), and doctoral seminars (SOCWORK 773A/B). Her work contributes to equitable social work practices through multimodal analysis and participatory research methods.
