Tang Ching-Ping

Prof. Dr. Tang Ching-Ping is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at National Cheng Chi University, Taipei. He was a visiting scholar at the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan, University of Tübingen, from January to February 2011. His academic credentials include a Ph.D. (1998) from the University of Southern California and an M.P.I.A. (1993) from the University of Pittsburgh. Tang’s research focuses on environmental policy, comparative democratization, and governance in new democracies. He has held significant editorial roles, including Chief Editor of the Taiwanese Political Science Review since 2010 and Executive Editor since 2003. His work bridges environmental governance, institutional adaptation, and political dynamics in Taiwan and beyond. Tang’s awards include the Wu Ta-You Memorial Award (2004) and Young Scholar Awards (2003). He directs research projects on environmental governance, technology policy, and community development. His teaching includes core courses on public administration and political theory. Tang’s research has explored disaster policy, NIMBY politics, and judicial reforms in new democracies.

His research projects span topics like community-based conservation, judicial independence reforms, and sustainable development. He has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with a focus on environmental justice, institutional capacity-building, and democratization impacts on governance. Tang’s work frequently emphasizes Taiwan’s political transitions and their environmental implications, integrating comparative perspectives with local case studies.
