Dr. Tamsyn Dent is a Lecturer in Cultural Work at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries (CMCI) within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. Her research focuses on cultural work, creative labour, and questions of access and inclusion within creative industries. She joined CMCI in 2019 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the EU-funded DISCE project, examining sustainable creative economies across European cities. Her doctoral work explored motherhood's impact on women's careers in UK creative media industries.
Research interests span cultural policy, creative education, resistance movements, and the intersections of care and social justice. She co-authored the influential 'Creative Majority' report for the UK APPG for Creative Diversity, advocating for equality in the creative sector. Dent collaborates with industry bodies like Birds Eye View and Screen Skills, advising on EDI initiatives.
Teaching includes media production cultures, gender and creative labour, and transnational cultural policy. She actively organizes academic events, such as the 'Gender, Labour and Activism Mini-Conference' (2023) and 'Exploring the Value of Creative Education' (2023). Her work critiques systemic inequities in creative economies, emphasizing grassroots resistance and policy reform.
