Dr. Takuya Hirano is Professor of Practice in Music Industry Studies and Strategy, Leadership, Analytics Minor (SLAM) at Tulane University's Department of Music. With a three-decade career as a professional percussionist, he brings real-world industry experience to his academic role. His education includes an M.A. in Music Business and B.M. in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music.
Dr. Hirano's research explores global music industries, artist entrepreneurship, music licensing, copyright law, and ethnomusicology. His work examines the intersection of traditional percussion traditions and contemporary music business practices across diverse cultural contexts.
His artistic output includes the album 'Blu York - Live in NYC' showcasing jazz fusion and world music influences. Awards include being named among ORIGIN magazine's 'Top 100 Creatives'.
