About
Dr. Tabitha Wood is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Science at the University of Winnipeg, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry within the Richardson College for the Environment and Science. She holds a Ph.D. from Dalhousie University and completed postdoctoral research at the Ontario Cancer Institute.
Her research focuses on synthetic organic chemistry, particularly the Truce-Smiles rearrangement reaction, and medicinal chemistry targeting cancer therapeutics. She also explores enzyme inhibition strategies and protease activity assays through collaborations. Her work bridges organic synthesis with biological applications, emphasizing drug design and tumor-specific targeting.
Dr. Wood teaches advanced courses in organic chemistry, biochemistry, and medicinal chemistry. Her lab group contributes to open science initiatives like the Pan-Canadian Chemical Library. She actively promotes STEM outreach and equity in chemistry education.
Key research projects include optimizing the Truce-Smiles rearrangement, developing isoform-selective enzyme inhibitors, and creating fluorescent probes for enzyme activity assays. Her multidisciplinary approach integrates organic synthesis, biochemistry, and pharmacology.
