Sven Zebel

Sven Zebel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology of Conflict, Risk and Safety at the University of Twente. His research focuses on victim-offender mediation, reoffending prevention, cybercrime, and self-connectedness in adulthood. He has led several grants, including an NWO Research Talent grant (2017) for studying how victim-offender mediation reduces recidivism and a Tech4People grant (2016) for ICT-based mediation systems.

His work explores psychological mechanisms in mediation processes, the impact of digital communication tools on justice outcomes, and historical conflicts like colonial injustices. He has published extensively on topics such as adolescent stress and future self-continuity, with notable contributions in journals like Crime and Delinquency and PLoS ONE.

Zebel serves as an Associate Editor for Legal and Criminological Psychology and has contributed to projects like evaluating victim impact courses for prisoners and exploring youthful cybercrime offenders. His research bridges psychological theory with practical interventions to address crime and conflict resolution.
