Suzuko Knott

Suzuko Knott serves as Associate Professor of German, Director of the Toor Cummings Center for International Studies & the Liberal Arts (CISLA), and Acting Chair of the Department of German at Connecticut College since 2012.

Her research examines contemporary German literary intersections with Japanese culture through Yoko Tawada's work, 19th-century sport/body culture, and gender/media studies within transnational frameworks. She explores how German cultural production engages with Japan and the United States through literary and cinematic lenses.

Her publication analyzing Tawada's multilingual narrative techniques demonstrates expertise in German-Japanese literary relations and postmodern identity construction within European contexts.

Award highlights:

• Full grant from the German-American Fulbright Commission for the Baden-Württemberg Seminar (2013)

In academic leadership, she directs CISLA's international programming while chairing the German Department and securing competitive research grants. Her teaching portfolio spans language instruction to specialized seminars on Weimar-era sexuality and road narratives.

She leads Connecticut College's international studies initiatives through CISLA, fostering global academic partnerships and interdisciplinary curriculum development.
