Susanne Rosenberg is a Professor of folk singing at the Department of Folk Music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (KMH). She specializes in folk singing, with a focus on improvisation, kulning (herding songs), and method development within folk music. Rosenberg has taught folk singing at KMH since the mid-1990s and developed pedagogical approaches to revive and modernize traditional Swedish folk singing styles. She has performed internationally with groups like Rotvälta and Rosenbergs Sjua.
From 2004 to 2019, she served as Head of the Institute for Folk Music at KMH and was recently the artistic/scientific representative for the institution. Her research strengthens the global folk music environment and explores the intersection of traditional and contemporary artistic practices. Rosenberg completed her doctoral studies in 2013 with a thesis titled “Kurbits – ReBoot, Swedish folk song in a new scenic interpretation”, a collaboration between KMH and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
She leads the Folk Song Lab research project and has published works available via DiVA. Rosenberg’s contributions include bridging traditional folk music with modern performance contexts, emphasizing collaboration with contemporary composers and directors.
