Susanne Janssen

Susanne Janssen is Full Professor of Sociology of Media and Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she chairs the Department of Media and Communication and co-directs the Erasmus Research Institute for Media, Culture, History and Society (ERMeCHS). Elected to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 2021, she serves on the Dutch Research Council board for Social Sciences and Humanities.

Her research examines globalization and commercialization in cultural fields, digitalization impacts on media diversity, cultural participation disparities, and popular music heritage preservation. She directed major EU projects including Horizon 2020's INVENT initiative on cultural values and the HERA program on Popular Music Heritage. Her work supports inclusive cultural policy development across Europe.
