Susanne Hafner is an Assistant Professor of German at Fordham University and Director of Fordham’s Center for Medieval Studies. Her research explores the intersection of medieval vernacular literatures, classical reception, codicology, and gender studies.
- Education: M.A. from Universität Regensburg (Germany), Vanderbilt University, and Cornell University; Ph.D. from Universität Hamburg (Germany).
Her work centers on manuscript-based analysis, particularly how medieval readers reinterpreted classical narratives through glosses and marginalia. Current projects include Virgilian Masculinities, examining medieval reinterpretations of male characters in the Aeneid.
