Susan Uselmann is an Associate Professor of Humanities and Director of the Eastman Writing Center at the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. Her research focuses on medieval reading practices, creativity theory, and the intersection of imagination/memory in literary analysis. She teaches courses on English as a Second Language, Freshman Writing, and topics like Fairy Tales and Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
Her scholarly work includes co-editing Medieval Devotional Literature and Practice (2016) and authoring articles on devotional reading in medieval English literature. She received an NEH grant to develop a creativity-focused course.
Research interests span history of the English language, composition pedagogy, gender studies, and biblical literature. She currently writes a book on memory and imagination in medieval devotional texts.
